Default Public Holidays in December

Afternoon all,

I wonder if somebody may be able to shed some light on something... I'm starting a new job on 30th Nov and i've been told that there are a couple of public holidays at the beginning of December. I've had a look on a couple of websites and it seems to be that the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th December are National days and 7th through till 11th is Eid. Does this sound right? and most importantly do we get time off work or are people still expected to show their faces?... or does it depend on where you work? (banking... sorry...)

Any help would be much appreciated!

Thanks
Jayne

I'll be landing in Abu Dhabi on 30 Nov and not sure when exactly I'll be starting work. I'm working for a construction company. Any idea how many days I'd be off? I can't see any point in starting the job on the Monday if I'm off the rest of the week. Any idea how many days Eid al-Adha lasts this year?

Excellent!!!!

I couldn't have picked a better time to come over. No wonder my new employer was trying to get me over a few weeks earlier!!

What are employers like regarding Christmas Day. Obviously it's on a Thursday this year but I'll be working five-and-a-half days a week so is there a likleihood I could be working a half day?

Christmas isn't a holiday here, nor is New Year (our new year) for obvious reasons. If you want those days off, it'll be from your holiday allowance...

It depends on what company you work for. My company is of Canadian origin and they give us Christmas and New Years day off.

We've already been told that we're getting 7-9th Dec Incl. off but not sure about the other days.

Is the pub;ic holiday on 2 December for 1 or 2 days? Some websites conflict with their opinions!

As always it depends who you work for!
Schools are closed for 12 days, but so far Govt sector not yet declared.
Maybe we will get 12 days also, hopefully. Unfortunately never clear until published in newspapers!
