Default Paying for a Visa

Guys, I'm going to make this brief and to the point and I would appreciate your feedback.
Now in the past 48 hours, I have been offered a job in Dubai. I shall not mention the company
name but it's a worldwide company.

To cut a long story short, I am being asked to pay a four-figure sum to process my work
visa. Now I have worked throughout the Middle East, S.E. Asia and Africa a time spanning
35 years. I have never, ever had to pay for a work visa! All work visas (I'm in the UK) are
processed through the company embassies usually in London.

Is this whole thing a scam? I think it is. Comments, please.

What has the hiring process been so far - how many interviews etc? Is this request from payment from somebody you've been dealing with and definitely their email address?

Well, that's the thing. There hasn't been an interview and no mention of a medical. The email address of
the visa 'tourist agency' is real enough but I haven't actually dealt with a person so far.

So you've been offered a job without even having had an interview, and the offer has come from a tourist agency and not the actual company?!? Yep, scam IMO.

Uh-huh. Any foreign company, especially in the Middle East, Asia and throughout Africa, ALWAYS process your
work visa through the embassy. I mean no interview, either by phone, or Zoom or Skype. Christ I could be
disabled, half-blind, dying of covid . . . anyway, thanks for your time - much appreciated!!
