Passport

Ok so I handed my notice in yesterday! I will probably get a 6 month ban but its not a problem as my new job is for a free zone company.

My current sponsor has my passport! Just worried I will have a problem getting it back as im due to fly home for a holiday on 25th July.

If they refuse to return it who do I complain to. The Police or the Labour dept.?

If they cancel your visa this week, you have a month to be out of Dubai...I don't think they have any profit in keeping your passport with them, except if they are spiteful people...Yes,it is illegal to hold passports just the same way as its illegal to drive on the hard shoulder...("Do what you want as long as you don't get caught",that's the rule...)
BTW,what nationality is your current company???

Passport is with the local sponsor! I dont even know if there will be a problem. I had asked for it back before handing in my notice but they said the Sponsor was out of town until next week.

Current company is Indian owned

Well...Proceed to the nearest British Consulate...
And just your luck that the amnesty of absconded employees is in full swing...

not an absconded employee! have handed my notice in as per my contract! have given them them otion to end after 1 month rather than 3. In my line of work that will be preferable to them!

will give them a few days this week to stump up with the passport and it they dont will contact the police to report it stolen and contact the Consulate!

Hopefully it wont be a problem though!

thanks BC. Hope you are right. need it back before the though because Im booked on a flight home for a holiday. Was booked when I moved out here!

Just looking forward to starting my new job because they seem really happy to have someone coming wth experience in my field! It also means no more crossing the bridge each day so will try to move out somewhere off SZR.
