Hi everyone, I know packages have been discussed to death on this forum, but I was hoping to get an opinion from fellow expats on this and make this a contribution to help anyone else who is looking for reference points in the current job market in Dubai as I myself am grateful for the info I have seen on this forum.
I was offered a job in a multinational IT company in DIC. Its a consulting position for doing IT architecture etc. I have 6+ years of experience primarily in north america. Married, no kids yet and no plans for having them for another 3-4 years. Here is what I was offered:
basic: 23k AED/month
housing: 110k AED (A decent 1br in marina will do for us)
car: 37k AED per annum
relocation: shipping + tickets + 6 weeks in hotel.
tickets: economy tickets to home every year for self and spouse
medical: covered but no dental.
bonus: 7-12% depending on performance
gratuity: standard per dubai labor law
I know I can definitely live well and save a bit on this but I am wondering if this this is competitive from a Dubai IT perspective. If anyone else is in the same field on this forum I would really appreciate any advice. thanks.

Can you share some of your experiences on how you found your move and where you are staying?
I also work in IT in technical sales for a global hardware and software business. I am moving from Berkshire in the UK and my job will involve being 50% in Dubai and 50% in central and eastern europe and the middle east. I'm 24, male, single on the following package which I had accepted:
basic: 23k AED/month (75% basic, 25% commission)
housing: 70 AED
car: 23k AED per annum
relocation: shipping + tickets + 6 weeks in hotel.
tickets: economy tickets to home every year for self
medical: covered
I will be arriving within the next couple of months and it is very much a new experience for me. The offices are based in Dubai Internet City. Ideally I don't want to drive as I hear the traffic is awful, but will do if it is a lot more cost effective to live further out. Can you offer any advice on where I could stay which would be an easy commute to Dubai Internet City?
Thanks in advance!

If you want an easy commute to DIC, you'll need to live somewhere like the Marina, Palm, JBR or the Greens.
As you're single a 1-bed apartment will presumably do you, but you're not going to get anything for 70k in those areas. You'll need to bump it up to at least 100k to give you some options.

Thanks for the information GarethR. Sorry for delay. 100k is a lot of money for renting a one bed! Will I get a much better deal further from the center of Dubai? I do not need to be in the office every day so can maybe get away with commuting. Is there anywhere further out from Dubai center you can reccomend or is a bad idea?

the alternative is International City but don't go there!
either that or downsize to a Studio!

I just drove there from Mirdiff...20 mins...there are a few different routes to take, but either you have a lot of traffic lights or a lot of traffic...

What are the buses like? Are they preferable to driving your own car?
The speed of the posts are impressive here!

Studio has your sleeping and living area in same room.
Some are quite spacious.
forget the buses. Unreliable and you don't want to be stood out in a bus queue in 50 degree heat!

busses...I'd prefer a car
