Default package

ello, ello- offer received for Bahrain:
fam visa; salary BD2500; car allow. BD220; accom allow. BD600 + 1 month paid leave per year + annual economy air tickets. Relocation is basically the air tickets to Bahrain- may be ok as we're not looking to shift our furniture etc. Medical is reimbursed use of the government health services. 3 mo probation & open contract.

That leaves rental (furnished prob. a compound) and schooling.

how does this compare with doobaai or doha? Anyone here from Bahrain

put another way- if someone offered you this deal, would you take it, negotiate or run away.

Hey SD,
Best to wait for Northern Lad, or others from Bahrain.

Most the people here live in Jew-bye, but there are a couple from Bahrain.
Give it a day or so and check back.

And saying 'please' and 'thank-you' wouldn't go amiss either...

As the Take That song goes, 'have a little patience'.

In answer to your question, it doesn't seem too bad a deal, we were there just over a year ago and got a big villa for 500BD a month, but have been told prices have gone up considerably.

Try here http://www.gulf-daily-news.com/ in classifieds to get an idea.

Not sure what it means by govt health services - if it's the place you go to for residency medical, I would not be too pleased.

Arf!

Seriously though, one of my pet hates is people who appear then demand information. Everyone is very helpful, but it wouldn't hurt if posters asked politely and said thank you.

shifty, I think you need to look at the school fees and private medical insurance. I wouldn't like to have treatment for anything too serious in the government hospitals here. I have used them in the past and they are fine for minor things but anything serious and I wouldn't be happy.

How many children have got - school fees could be an issue.

BHD2500= 24,393AED;
BHD220= 2,146AED;
BHD600= 5,854AED

somewhere someone in this forum quoted 28K as a minimum for an expat package (dept. of trade recommendation for doha I think it was)...i'll search to see who posted this.
bluecat- you sound expensive!- reckon this is going to cut it to live, save and enjoy da mid-east?

salary aint bad, car allowance good as well. Not sure about housing allowance - we get 10,000 a month here. I really don't know about the rental market in Bahrain. If it goes like it did here you could be caught out. We had a great villa at 85k it is now 150k. things went through the roof. I am sure someone from Bahrain will be able to tell you better what the rentals are like. You won't save much if you have to pay schooling out of your salary.
