Offer accepted on apartment. Now what
*rolls eyes*
Now it's my turn to ask for advice, never having done this in DXB before.
A few questions:
1. Agent is from one of those anonymous agencies. How do I know his RERA certification is valid and not a fake?
2. What is the initial deposit to book the apartment before I sign the contract? 1,000 AED? Is it refundable should I be unable to sign the contract because the landlord's terms are unacceptable?
Any pointers welcomed.

Quite possible I will be ***ing off. Since I am a skinflint I will be skipping internet connection for a few months to save some money.
PS No problem, Grace darling. It takes a lot to offend me.

2. 1,000 AED sounds about right as a holding deposit. If the landlord was imposing T&C's outwith the standard leasing agreement and they weren't mentioned prior to giving the deposit I would expect it would be refundable, but in Dubai I wouldn't swear on it.
Re. your internet connection, if you're moving into an apartment block chances are you'll be able to piggy back on someone elses unsecured wireless connection (that's what I did for a week or two, but don't tell anyone!).

most importantly you will need to ask the agent for the proof of ownership...I've had a few clients that went out by themselves and thought they had found a really good bargain...pity though that the agents couldn't produce a document that actually said who the property belonged to...very dogdy, as they will ask you to just make all the cheques out to them and not the landlord...also ask for a passport copy of the landlord.
