I know that labourers typically have their passports held. Never heard that for professional ex-pats...

I'd never work for a GCC company that wanted to hold my passports whilst in their employ.

Mine don't and i stipulated that before i joined as well as a multi-exit visa so you can travel in and out without the ball ache of a one time exit visa.

You can't get out of here without the exit visa but the multi exit visa allows you to enter and exit as many times as you want for 1 year , it costs the company 500 QAR.

So having your passport is theoretically to no advantage because if you have not got the multi exit visa you can't leave in any case.

Just another shite rule in a backward place

They will try and hold it if you don't stipulate it , it's a 'power thing' , they still do it all over the GCC to all Nationalities.

If you're still not sure ask the Consualte/Emabssy they will tell you the same
