Hi Alisha,

How desperate are you for the job, that will have a bearing on how you approach the negotiation. Secondly how good are you at your job any specialist skills to bring to the table that they could not or would find difficult to get elswere. Also how urgent is the need for the employer to fill the vaccancy. I guess your'e available ASAP no termination notice in your current job, this always helps being able to respond immeadiately and make them wait while you work your termination notice.

Don't undersell yourself, also show loads of confidence when negotiating, dont be too eager to accept or show that your desperate to get the job. Obviously you need to demonstrate that you are keen to take on the role and are more than able to do the job.

If the base salary is fixed and they wont budge then try an alternative approach, ask what other benefits are associated witht he job can any of these be enhanced, look at bonus schemes etc, health care and so on. Do they pay fuel as well as providing car allowance. I know fuel is cheap over in Dubai but over the course of a long stay it all adds up to dead salary.

What about retrun flights to and from the UK, holidays etc all these things can make up for a poor salary, press hard for instance that your salary would be reviewed after say 6 months, once you prove yourself in the job, also push for a annual increase if possible.

Not sure if I saw in your post what you actually do for a living so can not comment to much on your actual package, although I think its somewhat light in all areas.

Hope some of this is helpfull and that you can negotiate a better deal.

Best regards,

Andy
