Smile Moving to Dubai-please help!

Hello all,

Looking for some advice please

My partner has a new job in Dubai and i want to move out there with him. We are 29 and 30 and engaged and due to marry next year. Few issues:

1. I want to work and dont yet have a job, am i best moving out and getting one within 60 day visit visa? or shall i try to get one here first?

2. Are jobs for Graduates with fundraising/marketing background readily available in Dubai? Anyone know any good agencies?

3. We want to share a villa with others until we settle but can unmarried couples do this easily?

I know i have asked a lot but any help would be so much appreciated. We have been to both Dubai and AD before and have some family in AD but would appreciate your thoughts!

Thanks a million

Congrats on your forthcoming marriage.

You can renew the 60 day visa by leaving the country & coming back in. Why not put out some feelers now & see how many interviews you are offered. I found my first position here through being on the ground & knocking on doors - but it's horses for courses, really, as to which way you go about it.

Yes, there are marketing jobs out here and Western marketeers are popular in certain industries. In others, you will compete with other nationalities.

Officially, you cannot co-habit here. Plenty of people do, but do so discreetly. It would probably be easier for the two of you to live in a flat together, but it is not impossible to find a villa share with people who will think nothing of your living arrangements.

Good Luck!

It's really not that bad... I've never heard a single case of a Western couple getting busted for co-habitation.

Good luck with the job - what kind of marketing exp have you got? Which industry?

there was a big article in the 7 days today, about how single people are not allowed to share villas...apparently landlords are afraid of the fines and are giving notice...

My experience is within the Charity sector in the UK eg, direct mails, websites, events. I have worked for big charities in London and Manchester but i realise the vol sector isnt big industry (yet) in UAE as it is in UK, US etc.

I think my skills are transferable though..so i am hopeful.

Re:villa shares, thanks for the advice. My partners company didnt think it was a prob but then they would say that, they want him to start asap!

Will we really find it diificult to rent 1br in Greens or somewhere like that?

there are still a lot of villa shares advertised! cant imagine they will fully enforce the law as it would cause a huge slump in the market for villas.

Most people who 'co-habit' are in fact "sharing with their brother/sister"......

....... or at least that's what they put on the forms.........

Oh, nice line of work to be in. A few of my friends in the UK started their careers at Water Aid in London - one of them is now a CEO, the other a celebrity chef!! Perhaps it's a fortuitous way to start a career!!

Maybe try Dubai Cares & Dubai Humanitarian city. I did some training for Dubai Hum City a few years back - they were looking to attract NGO's to the region, they had some great plans for a rapid-response disaster relief operation based here. I haven't kept up with the status of the project.

If you want some expert advice on rental, send a PM to Beebee. She works in letting & is very helpful.
