Default Moving to Doha, staying in Ezdan Tower 3

Hi everyone,

I have recently found out that I am going to be living in Ezdan tower 3 in Doha, I move there on Saturday. Does anyone have any information about the place? Some reviews seem pretty poor but are quite dated.

Anyone else living near? I am moving on my own so would be good for some contacts.

A friend of mine stays there - he loves it - not sure which tower though. Its in West Bay and really central for the business district and at least one of the malls. I thought about taking an apartment there, then I found Bilal Suites and apartments, but later settled on a compound - Al Fardan 3. Here is a link to Bilal, their properties are supposed to be really good. Ezdan were quoting about 10,000 qar for a one bed and 12,000 qar for a two bed a month or so ago which I think is the same as Ezdan.

Ezdan is rubbish , dark , dingy and poor facilities . You can get good modern apartments in Al Saad for 8000QAR . Ezdan is overpriced as most of it is short term lets or holding apartments for people until they move into long term accomadation , high turnover of people and grotty in places.

Mostly Lebo's and Eastern Europeans so there's a lot of competition for a mirror in there . The location doesn't matter as nowhere is good in this God forsaken cesspit/

You're probably better off up the Camel Market !

Enjoy

You're selling Qatar quite well these days. Whenever anyone says to me "there's always Al Jazeera (which people do here all the time like its some media shangri-la) I reel off several of your Qatar-loving posts and cackle.

There's nothing to love about this place , i'm very well compensated for my time here and i work for a very very good company so that is half of the battle , also the wife has a decent little job and we've got a good bunch of friends.

Qatar itself though ? A horrible little place that's dull , boring , incestuous , aggressive , obnoxious and shite......

Well, that's the positive sides of Qatar covered. Care to add some negatives?

Hi Abbey,

Thanks for the link and the info, unfortunately I do not get a choice where I stay, so I hope I love it like your friend!

Brutal but brilliant!

Thank you for the honest advice. With a bit of luck I will not be staying in Qatar for more than a year, and working for most of that time too. Seems like I will not be enjoying myself anyway.

Wish me luck.

I am enjoying Doha but I have a good job and my life pretty much consists of working and looking after the kids and wife, socialising came off the agenda after fatherhood. So my experience of Doha is good so far, but only been here a month or so - Co Durham Boy is way more knowledgeable than me on all things Doha. I guess its what you make it - for me its a good job, good salary and good private school for my children - I'll settle for that rather than a recession ravaged, tax demanding, drug infested, UK city any day of the week.

Doha is a strange place. It's not the Emirates, but there again, it isn't Saudi. If you can make it work for you, then good luck!

It is a place that is frustrating at times, but not without its own quirky charm...If you go with the flow, and don't upscuttle the system, then it is different, but livable.

Doha is a strange strange place , it's frustrating and basically can be very dull. That's not to say people can't have a decent life here . It's horses for courses in the Gulf , some things work for some and some don't work for others.

You need to make it work for yourself here as Doha hasn't got much to offer an expat . Obviously you need to be very well compensated for your time and effort and have decent benefits to run inline with that.

The longer you're out here in the Gulf the more cynical and negative you can become and in Qatar that is magnified ten fold as it's such a small place and you just can't escape anything.

I agree that the U.K is not in the best health at the moment but don't view Qatar or the Gulf as a shining light and answer to your prayers , it's not and it never will be. These places have a tendancy to let you down big time.

Glad you've hit the ground running though , it can be a tough place when you first arrive , good luck with the future !!

I know what you mean about letting you down big time, a guy in our company upset the wrong Qatari and was on the first plane home. You need to have your eyes wide open. The thing that I am really avoiding is any financial dealings that could cause problems if it all goes Pete Tong, such as car loans etc. If it don't work out - a months notice and back on the plane home.
