Hi All,
I am finally moving to bahrain after nearly 5 months of waiting for my offer to come through...to be honest not really sure i have the patience to work in the Middle East if everything else is as slow..but willing to give it a shot and live the laid back life!!
Anyway, ill be coming over with my Wife, who as yet has not started looking for work. She has a backgroung in Health Care and Needs Assessment and also Psycotherapy, with managerial experience. Is there any scope for work out there for expats. Although she isnt too worried about working in that field, how easy is it to secure any type of 'generic' position.
We will be coming about a week before ramadan, although the company is putting us up in a hotel for 2 weeks, will the housing agents still be running as normal. Any recommendations will be appreciated. Looking for something in the range 400-450BD Inclusive.
Also can anyone recommend a no strings attached monthly car rental company for a very basic Group A car?
Finally, may seem like a silly question, but can you get UK TV channels there via Sky, like your usual terrestial channels and digital channels and the Sky Channels? But am sure theres a lot more better things to do in Bahrain in the evening rather than sitting back and catching up with the Eastend.
Thanks in advance for all your help...the Jitters are finally setting in now..

400-450BD sounds quite low, what size are you looking for and where will you be working?

Hi,
Ive got a trainee/junior position at a bank working in the diplomatic, so the allowance isnt huge.
Looking for a 1/2 bed apartment FF inclusive of utilities/satellite if possible. Not looking for anything spectactular. Willing to stay a bit further a field to get something nice. But would like to be within walking distance to a few shops/restaurants if possible.
thanks in advance

Hi Bromo,
you might find more Bahrain info on the EW board HERE, as there is a Bahrain specific sub-forum (although it is more of a ladies forum, men are welcome
).
450-500 for property is probably harder to find, but if you search hard enough and ask around, it might be do-able. You can have a look at availabilities in the GDN (local newspaper) HERE. When you say 'all inclusive' I'm assuming you mean fully furnished also? If you're looking for unfurnished, your price range will probably be easier to accomodate.
As for telly channels - we have Orbit at our apartment and get BBC prime, the other provider is Showtime. Some apartments will have a mix of both Showtime and Orbit, but we only have Orbit at our place.
For car rental - Tooranco seem to be popular, they're located in Juffair. Better explanation of them in this thread HERE. We've bought one car, but still hire one through hubby's company. You should be able to get a decent compact for 140/month. If they try to charge you more, just remember you can always bargain here in the ME
As for your wife and finding a job - as i've said previously, here it's very much not what you know but who you know. I'd definitely recommend she get in contact with some local recruitment agencies though - a couple I know of are Clarendon Parker and Gulf Connexions. Also, a lot of ladies I've spoken to generally say they have had to take a bit of a pay cut working here - especially if you're recruited locally, the salaries aren't great. I've heard of some good ones, but they seem to be rare.
Anyway, good luck with the moving and if there's anymore Q's just shout out
