Life for Singles in Doha
Hi,
I am looking at moving to Doha with my employer.
I am a 26 year old single woman and it would be great if anyone could let me know what the life is like for singles in Doha - are there many single people or is it mainly just families? What is the nightlife like?
I grew up in Dubai but never visited Doha.
Thank you!

Just went to Doha for a month but unfortunately they didnt have much to offer when it came to entertainment or nightlife, from what I could see, but I guess if you meet people who are in your position they could give you better information on the subject. But for me, I dont think I would leave the UAE to go to Qatar as it is not developed enough. Hope it helped.

After coming to Doha from UK last year I think it would be fair to say that Qatar is more conservative than Dubai.
Its really geared up towards families - my kids so far love it here!
Hope it helps

Re: Life for Singles in Doha
When I lived there in the late 80s there was a party every night if you wanted it, but always at people's houses (a lot of people had their own bars and some even sort of made one room 'pubby', not so naff when there are no pubs to go to). The routine would be to go out to the island in a boat on 'Sunday' and drink a few beers (only slightly illegal in those days!), do a bit of skiing and fooling around in the water, just socialising. Often the day started with brekkie in one of the hotels, lots of us expats used to meet up just for that big brunch after a party 'Saturday' nite, in recovery mode. Rest of the week phone around and see who's got open house or a party. Single women were VERY in demand as there was a severe lack of them.
On the whole social life was OK but claustrophobic. Escaping to Dubai or Bahrain very desirable after a few months!
I believe alcohol became available in hotels since those days, back then we expats just got a monthly allowance for strictly home consumption and everywhere else was 'dry'.

Yes alcohol now available in the hotels with very exspensive price. And expat can buy booze for home consumption.

Then I think now the country gearing up towards Asian Games 2006. Somebody told me about 6 or 7 years ago the best shopping place is The Centre. But now we have Carrefour, Giant, Lulu, Mothercare, Bodyshop and loads of other international brands. Shopping bit might be sounds boring for you, but might help Fayence a bit ...

Good morning Novita!
I am impressed! You have GEANT in Doha. There will be one opening soon near where I live and I was wondering how it compared to Carrefour.
