Default Land Rover LR4 under warranty?

My head says Toyota - but my heart says Land Rover.

I know that the older LR models (Disco 3's) have their fair share of reliability issues and I've previously owned an LR4 3.0 Diesel in the UK (with a couple of minor issues fixed under warranty).

Having found an LR4 5.0 v8 with a significant balance of UAE dealer warranty remaining - am I mad to consider it?

I don't have any experience of the 5.0 v8 reliability. My concern out in the UAE is the availability of parts and dealer service. Unlike the UK - where there is a LR Recovery guy within 30 mins of you.

Has anyone any experiences of Al Tayer in AD ??

Thanks!

Vantort - however, do check the warranty is transferrable. In Oman, it is not.

LR recovery is very good. LR & Volvo share the same recovery group. Basically they are big trucks that will pick you up, take car to dealer, and help you out if you are stuck. Apparently they are GCC wide, so no worries if you drive outside of UAE. However, again check this is transferrable - check with dealer, not current owner.

I am finally ditching my volvo for a LR4.... or a Nissan Patrol.

A Patrol would be fun, can you imagine the shock other drivers would get when it wasn't tail gating or, indeed, the indicators came on before the car changed lanes.

Really want a Range Rover (bit of a childhood dream, and to be tall and leggy too, like my schoolfriend's mum) but it's not practical enough.

Oh god, have been going around in this circle since August and still haven't decided.

which volvo do you have al dente? what driving is your "normal" - i.e. what kind of road do you put in the most milage? LR4s wallow like a pig compared to the XC90. But the XC90 is an AWD, & the LR4 is 4WD, so LR4 is better for wadi bashing. But most LR4 owners never take the precious out in the rough, so the whole need for 4WD is negated.

Get the patrol. Old shape. The new shape one is a totally different car and built on an Armada.

Or a pardo - remember you will want to sell it one day

then quite frankly, you're better off sticking with the XC90. I've driven & owned both, and for roads, the v8 XC90 can get up to speed far quicker than the LR4 and is far more of a tank for when the inevitable 'tard tries to bounce off the side of you (and doesn't need a panel beat cf LR4).

I got it for the safety aspect too, and do LOVE it. However, i must be succumbing to UAEitis and to thinking of getting a flash car that i could only own here.. Yep, I am becoming more shallow. ****.
