Hi do you know where a sample of an employment contract can be found for download? I have heard that most of the local companies introduce their own silly employment T&C's so I would like to review a standard ex-pat employment contact or may be an advise to look for mandatory things while negotiating an employment contract!

it really doesn't make much difference what you have in the contract, at the end of the day they will just refer to the UAE labour law. Try your best though to get termination notices added.

Page 4 of BC's download is fairly helpful with Employment Contracts and as she says-only Contracts drawn up in UAE lex will be upheld.

Well I have received a draft of the contract from a company, will cross check it against the UAE labor law try to extract the difference to see what extra impositions the company have included in the contact, it is safer to have the contract aligned as closely with the labor law to be safe! Also it depends on the employers being flexible to accommodate changes in the proposed draft, I have heard the most employers in the UAE are extremely arrogant and inflexible they simply don't leave much choice so it is usually of take it or leave it situation!

Sorry, BC, have to disagree with you. What is in the contract is binding; UNLESS it opposes UAE law (labour, or otherwise).
The same is true of Tenancy Contracts; although, in that instance, codicils can be stipulated outside of the contract, e.g. in a separate letter/document. That is why the advice is not to sign anything beyond the municipally approved contract.

your right, I am probably just a bit disheartened with hearing of so many people who are being ripped off then being told it's tough.
