Default just what is a good salary in Dubai?

hi everyone stumbled across this great chatboard whilst stressing about possibility of moving to Dubai. Have worked there as a consultant which has now turned into a possible job.

But my dilemma is the $. Just what is a good salary? You know what I mean, live comfortably, be able to particpate in sports, go out + save $ and pay the mortgage back home, AND come back with some cash (hopefully)

To give you an idea, how does 25000 dhs/mo + housing (to 75000dhs pa) + car + airfares sound for a senior manager type position?

Would be stoked with any advice you can provide.

Disclaimer: I'm not a pom but my wife is so I hope you don't mind!

Welcome Cammo,

Housing needs to be a little more i would say, esp if you have kids, + you will need school fees, plus all depends on what type of company it is, industry wise that is. There are lots of guy's on here i am sure that will help you out on that one.......

Calling JD.......R U around, what do you reckon??

Depends on where home is, how big your mortgage is back there, how often you want to eat out, where you want to live, what sort of car are they going to give you, how often will they pay your airfare, how many children you have etc etc. The 25,000 Dhs bit looks about right but the housing allowance will only get you a one or two bedroom flat in the better areas, and you have to allow for electricity and water on top.

Not particularly good - like the girls say, housing is way too low if u have kids u want to look at 100+ for a decent place.

Municipality tax 5% of rent. Elec and water bill in the summer can be horendous if in a villa.

Schools range from 10 - 48k a year

Think of pension payments!!!

What about moving out here costs.

Medical cover / insurance is a must

If I can think of anything else, i'll let u know\

Would tend to agree TS, 25,000dhs per month seems a bit low to me.
It all depends on what field of work you are in and how readily available those skills are.
You could certainly get by on that salary but it wont be in the lap of luxury.

I think some of you guys have all been spoiled a little bit here huh?

Dh25,000 is about 3,600 pounds a month take home pay. (about 75k + a year in the UK if you take tax into account I think). That's a pretty healthy salary if you're not having to pay for anything at all.

The housing allowance seems ok - it probably doesn't take into account the ludicrous rate of rental increases. You could "shock horror" get a 3 bed villa in the Springs for that.

If you can't live in the lap of luxury on that then you've got problems.

Problems??

{Jd stands on his Chair} Hi...my names JD...and im a alcoholic..

No offence W10, but a fair few people here are specialists in there chosen field, and 25000dhs aint that great, even taking the tax into consideration. Most middle manager and IT jobs are taken by indians/asians.
Most the expats here are at the top of there game, hence high expat packages. I was earning more in the UK, and im only here because the Inland revenue wanted to be my new pen pal,...and I was being autistic with them .

Only joking.

At the end of the day everyones situation is different, if your happy with whats being offered then cool !

It was more the comment about being able to "get by" but not being able to live in the lap of luxury when pulling in 3600 quid each month and having more or less no local outgoings whatsoever.

Fair point, but for all i know you might have a 500,000 mortgage in the UK, 6 kids, and ex wife to pay for. etc etc.

I just have to pay for my medication and therapy.

the rest i just spunk up the wall getting drunk and laid....but hey.....doesnt make me a bad person

I took a 40% pay cut coming here, so I wouldn't say spoiled is the right choice of words. Yes it was my choice and it was the right one. IF YR GONNA LIVE 3400 MILES FROM HOME U MAY AS WELL LIVE WELL!!

Hope it all works out
