Hi need some help guys please ... I have an international driving permit with me from the UK but still waiting for my sponsorship to be done - can I drive a private car with this or is it just hire cars?

just go and get a temporary license....do a search on here for it, there have been a few threads about the subject already recently..

MH is quite right, you can simply get a 6months temp driving licence issued on the spot with a British passport on a visit visa stamp, licence AND COUNTERPART.

once your residency visa is done then straight forward again, jut got mine done last week, produve visa and temp licence for swap with full visa.

Fizzy I think you are in Al Ain. I have just sent a PM to two guys coming out in January. I have advised them to get international licences before they come, less hassle and when you get your residency visa you can purchase your own car but in the meantime drive rental cars.
