Re: insects??
I must sat that i have only seen the "jumping" spiders not sure what they are but one jumped from my floor up onto the work counter the other day, trying to get at my raw liver (well not mine personally ...That would be too horrific ..the cows liver for our dinner...obviously) I screamed and grabbed the raw liver shoving the chopping board with spider attached outside in record quick time.
I was lucky...They can really jump!! It means if you are sitting down they are capable of jumping directly onto youre face.
But have not seen many of them so don't worry!!

Re: insects??
Now camel spiders can grow really big, they are seriously scary.
Have been told they are mostly in the desert tho.
My friend in Saudi found one in her garden after a sandstorm.

Re: insects??
I've seen a few jumping spiders, they look weird, they have little claws like a scorpion. But the spiders themselves are very small, at least the ones I have seen.

Camel spider stories are generally myth - try a google search.

Re: insects??
About the camel spiders, just googled it,screaming ,biting or not, they are nasty !
Hope I will never encounter one.
I also found a weird insect in Saudi,it was fairly large ,about 10 cm, bright green, and had sort of a stinger on its tail, it looked somewhat like a centipede, and was very aggressive. Anyone know what that is?

Re: insects??
I don't really know what the things with the claws are called, we just call them jumping spiders due to the jumping they actually do.

Re: insects??
Here ya go, most people are unaware that we have such a diverse arrray of nasties in the UAE. Fortunately you will probably never see 90% of them

Some thing of note:
"In the Emirates, black widows occur along the coastal strip " I knew we had red backs but not Black widows
"14 species or sub-species of scorpions from the Arabian peninsula"
these hurt a LOT

snakes:
Saw-scaled Viper
Carpet Viper
False horned Viper
Horned Viper
Sand Snake
False Cobra
Cat Snake
Wadi Racer
Diadem Snake
Sand Boa
