Spartan. I was talking about compound, not school. As I said, I have spent over 20 years in the Middle East, my daughter was born there and started school there, with many different nationalities, some we still remain friends with. I was not aware that every word I say would be vetted.

Not a racist, but obviously a compound with expats so we can share in common interests. Was 18 years in Saudi.

Well, if you are working for ADCO, there is a very nice ADCO staff "compound" behind your offices. why not ask for one of the villas there?

On island there are not that many expat compounds, although there is one in Khalidya, behind the Mall, close to where you will be working. As one of the most liberal countries in the ME, expats are more integrated into the city as we are the majority of the population, as I am sure you are aware. DEcent compound style villas for 200K though are thin on the ground, unless you go off island to Kalifa City A or al raha - making your commute at least 30 minutes... However tower block simplexes/duplexes behind your new office though are on the market around your budget.

hope this helps.

Thank you Weescot. They did mention that, although did not give the location or any other details. I would probably try for a location near to the school if that is possible. Ofcourse I have to find a school first. I am coming out on my own for a number of months, so I can see for myself. I was jsut trying to get a feel for the place before I accepted the offer.

If you are coming out on your own first, I would go for a serviced apartment - there are loads coming online now. at least until you find your feet and get school places sorted/neighbourhood chosen.

P.S. Sent you a PM

There are a couple of compounds in town - Khalidya Village and The Palm. Off island you have Mangrove and Seashore, Sas Al Nakheel, Al Reef and Al Raha.

For 200,000 AED you wont get anything on Mangrove or Seashore - your best best is either Al Reef or Al Raha but then this means a big commute to your office.

I would probably be more interested in sorting out schooling as this may have an influence on your location. If you chose the British School for example, then you probably wont want to be commuting from Al Reef, but if you went to Yasmina School, then Al Raha/Al Reef would be perfect.

I agree with Weescot about you coming first, staying in a serviced apartment and then looking around for an area and then a property you like.

Thanks Tilly, and I agree. I do have room for negotiation on my package, but the way to do this is to arrive and research the schools and the areas. I cannot do everything upfront. Thanks to everyone that replied, it has given me some insight which was my objective.
