Hi,
I live in Dubai. I am going to make an online purchase of one camera lens which is GBP1365.83. I would like to know if I will have to pay any tax or duty here in Dubai at the time of collection of the shipment. The lens is for my personal use.

standard import duty is 5% of the CIF Value, which is essentially the price of the lens, the courier cost, and the insurance for transport (if not insured, UAE will presume 1% of the combined goods/courier value). +/- 70 GBP in duty on the presumption you are paying an additional 50 quid for packaging and transport.

Or, depending who you are buying it from, you could get them to declare the value on the outside as a lot loss - therefor reducing the exposure to duty or possibly removing it. I wouldn't recommend this option, but it's up to you.

If you are planning to order from outside UAE then I would order from the US rather than UK as camera equipment is a lot cheaper there..
