I remember reading about the laws here regarding alcohol, very strange. I'm sure it was something along the lines that officially, tourists can only drink in bars at the hotel they are staying at, and for residents they can drink in any bar as long as they have a license.

There was an incident of some westerner drinking in a bar in town and police were called. Not all the facts seemed to be disclosed, but it inferred that as he had an alcohol license he got off.

We got a license as soon as residency came through, it is fairly easy to get. If you do a booze run up and do get stopped (even in Sharjah) you are OK with the license (as long as only transporting it through Sharjah, and not quaffing whiskey whilst driving).

Also, if you have a house party and for any reason the police are called, without a license you're in trouble.

correct me if i am wrong but all you need to do is go to a MMI (one in MOE)

they will give you a form......

get your company to stamp it and submit with

copy of tennancy contract
copy of visa

120AED i think...

10 days later revisit the place and your card is there
