How Long Does It Take?
#1
From being offered the job - to arriving out there?
I was offered the post on Boxing Day ( 26th Dec ) via email, and was told they want me out there asap, but need to get the visa / medical sorted, so I haven't given in my notice yet.
My employer needs me to give two months notice, but with the annual leave I still have left to take ( before March 31st ) I will probably work something like 5 weeks notice.
I think they have their own compound so I think I can get single accommodation quite quickly, will need to wait for family accommodation so wife and child will come later.
How long roughly for visa's - I was told about 6 weeks. So , by my calculations, I should be out there by end of March ? That sound about right?
TIA

you could be out here tomorrow, you sort out the residence visa thing once you have arrived. Can be done in as little a time as a few days up to a few weeks.

Do you mind me asking who you are going to work for, and at what level of seniority? Send me a PM if you'd rather keep it private (or tell me to mind my own bloody business, and not answer at all!!).
I'm not being nosy - it's just that you think they have their 'own compound' - that's unusual these days.
In practice, the more senior you are, the quicker it is.
If your job requires a degree (or if your CV says you have one, even if it's not officially required) get a copy of the certificate (or whatever you have) attested before you get out here. Others may know more but I think the FCO can stamp something which you take to Charles Street. Lots of fake degrees doing the rounds, so if you have a real one (any accredited university except Luton), have some proof with you, both to get your passport stamped in London, AND when you get here.
