The Jumeriah Beach Club is really nice, and more towards the airport end of Dubai, owned by the same co that owns the Burj, Jumeriah Beach Hotel atc..etc...

Or The Jumeriah Beach Hotel is also great, a bit further down the coast by 10 mins or so, but family friendly and right next to the Burj.

Both are ideal places to chill out. Private beach access, lovely swimming pools. The Jumeriah Beach Club is in particular has lovely gardens.

Issie,
How much can you afford?
I can suggest you don't go anywhere near the following places Deira - JW Marriot etc, Bur Dubai - where should I start, Ascot, Regal Plaza, Yorks, Astoria, etc. etc.
You should be at Jumeriah Beach Hotel - good for kids (free entry to wild wadi water park) or anyone in the marina, Sheraton (cheap cos of the construction), mina al sayahi, Hilton Jumeriah (not Dubai Creek), Dont do the intercontinental or the Hyatt (too busy). The best tho, if you've got the cash is The Al Qasr or the Mina A'Salam, both owned by Jumeriah group.
Top notch and have a good stay with us.

I agree with all those MJC has mentioned. Also the Habtoor Grand is really nice with a lovely beach and pool and should keep the kids entertained (it is also at the Marina). All their rooms have magnificent sea views. There is a lot of restaurants on site as well.
You should definetely stay at a beach hotel and make the most out of your stay. The weather will be lovely at that time of year.
