Default Homesick in Riyadh

Hey, I am a 31 year-old femaleteacher from the UK. I only arrived two days ago (9/11/09), but I'm already feeling homesick and wondering if I made a big mistake. The building I am living in is kind of in the middle of nowhere and the other teachers seem to have all been here a while and have their own social lives, friends etc., and I'm worried I'm gonna' go crazy, just sitting in the apartment every weekend. I am interested in opportunities to swim (and exercise in general) and socialise (in whatever form that takes around here) and would appreciate any help and advice, but no funny business heh?!... some of these forums seem to be attracting some rather strange types ;-)

Hi Abdu,
That's a very nice offer. Do you all speak a little English already? Your written English looks pretty good :-) My email is <email snipped>. Drop me a line and maybe we can arrange something.
Looking forward to hearing from you,
Carmelle

Hi,

Are you living in a compound or just an apartment building in the city?

I moved to Saudi about 1 month ago from the US, I was in Jeddah for a few weeks and recently moved to Riyadh. I am getting to know my way around the city and exploring...have you visited any of the malls?

Hey,
I am living in an apartment building (standard no window thing - pretty depressing). I've been to the Granada Centre a couple of times as that's pretty nearby and I like shopping as much as the next girl, but don't fancy spending all my free time in the mall! What are my options???!!!
