I feels these hotels really greedy with their revenue. They won't go bust charging normal rate ... yet they jack up the price ridiculously.
I guess it goes the same with the landlord and property Where there is a fast buck .......

I'm afraid thats called a 'free market economy', which all the Gulf States operate in.
The same free economy which doesn't allow any competition in the energy, automobile and telecoms sector

The goal isn't to 'not go broke' but to make as much as they can.....
If I owned the company that's what i'd be doing.....just the same as if I was a landlord.
When you buy a house for 150,000quid and five years later it's worth 200,000quid do you sell it for what you paid for it....you won't go broke after all...or do you maximise whatever you can get out of it?

Re: greedy hotels?
Considering the hotels are mostly full throughout the year, only goes to show people are prepared to pay the prices. Until people stop coming or go somewhere cheap, hotel prices will either stay as they are or in true Dubai style increase!!

I always stay in cheap and nasty fleepits because i'm too tight to pay the going rate for a decent place to sleep.

there should be another 6 hotels that suppose to open before the games ... but since they do everything in Doha last minutes ... they won't be able to open on time.

Comparison:
Four nights in 5 star in Beirut next week - US$300
One night in 5 star in Doha in December - US$395
I'm flying in and out of Doha daily for the games
