Anyone know what is the going rate for a cleaner/ironing lady in Riyadh? We dont have them on our compound and damned if I want a stranger listening to my hubby fart and burp all evening so dont want a live in. One of the chaps is using a nice Ethopian ladeeee down the road who is willing to come in and wants 35SAR a hour. Is this reasonable?

I get occasional calls out of the blue from women offering their services as part-time maids for SR 25 ph. The maid of the family next door came round one evening and offered her own services for the same rate, but I then found out she had previously been employed by a colleague and sacked after she fell out with his wife. I was not comfortable with giving a complete stranger the run of my house while I was at work anyway, so in the end I opted for the compound's own cleaning service for which I pay SR 80 for one hour per week and they send a team of three blokes who leave the house tidy and spotless and, if I make the mistake of leaving clean things in the dishwasher they put them away in different random cupboards! I'm happy with that.
I do my own washing (stick it in the machine) and take shirts to a laundry on the way home from work for ironing - SR 1.5 per shirt starched, next day service.

20 SR ph is the going rate.
25ph if you wanna splash the cash. Most will ask for 25, but ready to work for 20.
If you really want to be extravagant , you can hire a 'full time' maid, should cost you in the region of 1500 per month.

But Nottm a full time maid would want to live in.... Like I said my husband is a rude pig and likes nothing better than walking around naked..... not sure I want to put some poor Ethopian/Philly girl through that. God knows I'm still here!
Compound want to charge us 250SAR a day for a maid I think that is totally not acceptable so going off my own back to find someone.... even though it will upset the compound manager.. competition.
Will keep hunting for a nice ladee for say 20/25SAR and possibly some babysitting duties too.

Yeah, I'm sure the maid will have seen worse....
As they are only the two of us, and me being ever so neat and tidy, the maid only really comes in and does a bit of ironing and a bit of cleaning. She already works for another family on the compound so for us, she just earns a bit of extra for herself, she only does about 8 hrs a week, which is enough.
I'm happy cos I don't have to do the ironing, and my wife is happy she doesn't have to do the cleaning, so it's a win-win.
250sr per day is a right rip off. WHich compound are you on?
