don't worry about it. Dubai is very liberal and most laws are not strictly enforced on European expats.
Also Sharia punishments do not apply to non-muslims in Dubai.

I just thought thats its sometimes best to get info from people who are already in Dubai, rather than just doing multiple searches.

an egate card is an ID card which gets you through the airport quicker, there is an e gate, swipe your card and your in, no long passport queues. You can't get one until your a resident here though.

FWIW, anybody can get one, you don't have to be a resident. But if you *are* a resident, they need a copy of your residence permit.

that is also *incorrect*. Only UAE nationals or Residents can get them.

Criteria and Documents for eGate Card

New eGate card holder’s presence
Original passport (with at least 6 month’s validity).
You must either be a UAE citizen or an expatriate holding a resident visa.
Passport photograph


Procedure and Fee
Submit documents and do a finger-print ID. This procedure takes only about 5-10 minutes. Pay AED 200 per card.

Validity of CardThe eGate Card is valid for two years. A similar procedure and fees are required for renewal.
