Default FJ Cruiser

Am thinking of getting one of these, but concerned about the range (ie how many miles on one tank of petrol)—will probably be commuting between AD and Dubai, so don't want to be filling up all the time.

Thanks in anticipation

Cheap apartment, shitty bars and now a FJ Cruiser.

And you've got a family stashed away in the UK too...

Anyway, they don't have the best mileage and the blind spots are bad. But people who have FJ Cruisers seem to love them. My advice: get something sensible like a Pajero. But if I were doing the DXB-AD commute I'd get a cheap Yaris and pile on the kms.

18-20 mpg on a highway cruise, 70 litre tank, so expect about 400-450km between fill ups.

Get a TRD supercharger and intercooler bolted on, a 4" decat sports pipe, methanol injection....you'll get about 12mpg and it'll go like billy-o!

Drove one a couple of years ago - not sure on petrol consumption but it does have a lot of blind spots.

Judging by the way they always seem to be driven I always thought the blind spots were bigger than the non-blind spots!

As much as I'm loathed to agree with you Ethos, I do sort of second the Pajero (if you are to own it) - 3.8l is a very comfortable beast and will get you 480-500km out of a 120dh fill. The beep is annoying though.

I've no idea about the range of the FJ, but I suspect it has the same running gear as my Fortuner (same Engine - transmission may be different). Anyway, we get around 400km out of a 95Dh fill in that. I believe the FJ has almost double the tank capacity of the Fortuner. Both go like the clappers though which cannot be said for the Pajero.

If you plan to offroad it (in which case come out with me) - then get an FJ. You will rip the rear bumper off the big Pajero on the first dune. The SWB Pajero is much better offroad - but is not a 'big car' by any stretch.

so, my advice - enjoy the mid-life crisis, get a convertible and a little Asian chick to put in the passenger seat.

If you want range - get a Prado with the long range tank. 1000k+ between fills.

It would be cheaper to skip over stage 1 and 2 of the mid life crisis and move straight to stage 3, usually characterised by an American 'muscle' car or a Harley Davidson with a rear tyre from a caterpillar dump truck.

Either way it will save you the purchase price of the stage 1 and 2 vehicles and accessories.

i have no input to the mileage, only to say i don't think the FJ Cruiser is that bad of a car...just don't get it in that hideous yellow

if your worried about fuel consumption...get a prius...otherwise man up and buy some gas guzzling monster and be done with it...fuel prices aint that bad...

We love our FJ, I can get about 430kms out of a tank and my hubby who is somewhat gentler on the accellerator has been known to get 500kms. But what's the point of having 238bph and not flooring it at every chance you get!

We would buy another one tomorrow if we needed to, we use ours for onroad and offroad, great all round performer. Reliable, safe, and fun!

Will be company car and fuel, so its not the cost its the frigging hassle of having to fill up every other day. Rules say got to have four doors and a fixed roof, so no Mustang or ragtop. And I want loads of metal round me, so won't accept anything smaller than the current R36 (which I might just keep).

Already firmly in 2nd stage of MLC, so I think I'll go for the yellow--will match the GF, too.

you will have to refuel at least twice a week, no matter what you get.

As for the Yaris/ Tiida/ etc argument, it was nice knowing you, please consider helping YES! in your will.

Plastic fantastic

stop ****ing about and get a Landrover LR4 or **** the budget and get a Range Rover

Its like buying a good fake Rolex. You might be able to blag 99% of people in the room but deep down you wish you had bought the real thing

LRs and RRs only get unreliable when they are old which wont be a problem for you

Fly the flag and enjoy the unbridled snobbery that comes with looking down on everyone else in things Japanese

PS. Buying a Pajero is like buying a burger from Tescos hot counter. You
know it looks like a Mc D's but everyone else knows you are a cheapstake pretender

PPS. Who gives a **** about filling up. Thats what TCNs are for

I have regular access to an Fj as nice as it is to drive around the doors, I wouldn't like to trek back in fourth to AD in 1 mind.

Its not great on fuel, And the rear doors are a pain in the ass. Nice big dash plenty room in side but very plasticy finish.

The pajero is a gutless wonder of a car sadly. yes nice and comfy but no uummfff at all.

I've just bought an 09 pathfinder and its awesome 100dibs to fill from empty and am gettin 500clicks to a tank roughly but thats door to door. I picked it up Last Tuesday. Have to go AD maybe Thursday will report back on how it does on fuel. On a long trek.

Plus far better spec'd than its toyota rival also i found in my hunt for a car i fancied a prado but for what i could get for my budget wasn't impressed toys wise.
