First Visa run tomorrow, a few questions
ALreet?
Ok off to Hatta Fort Hotel for the night as well as the visa run, should be canny.
Now then - any idea how busy it gets on weekends and what time is best to get there (for the visa, not the hotel) ? And what is best time to go?
Also we need the car insurance and registration, what exactly is the registration?
Cheers everyone.....

Sorry mate I have no idea on the procedure, just remember you are a member of her Majesty's Empire. This of course provides you with the means to walk to the front of the queue and get served first. Any problems just tell them your name is Raoul Moat.

If you can manage three nights next month take the car and do the drive (as long as you have insurance for Oman/your hire car allows you to drive in Oman). Having your own car there is a bonus - taxis aren't metered and it's v easy to get ripped off. And if you have GPS it works pretty well, too.
If you're thinking of a luxury break then the Shangri-la Barr al Jissar is doing a good deal at the moment. Picked up a leaflet from Mirdif City Centre yesterday (kiosk is on the walkway from Carrefour towards Debenhams on the ground floor). Deals for GCC residents only.
For cheaper deals perhaps try the Crowne Plaza - an old hotel but with some reasonably good dining options, Duke's Bar .... oh wait, Ramadan starts 11th August or thereabouts and, unless you have your own private stash, there is no alcohol, not even in hotels. Or that's been our experience thus far.

It's a beautiful place, in a village type location on the beach with hills surrounding.
I'm just staying on business, but if you're looking for a luxury long weekend break this is a place to consider. There are plenty of activities available including sea fishing and scuba, plus they seem to have a well managed creche where you can dump the snappers.
Food is excellent (pricey, but no more than London) and service is outstanding.
It's about 20-25 mins drive from the airport and a taxi will cost 13 Riyals.
