Default Finally....Only a couple of weeks to go!

Looks like my Visa will be finally signed off this week. So should be arriving the following. Can't wait! Thanks to those of you that have offered to be drinking partners.....I'll be there!
One question though, internet use, who should I use as an ISP and am I likely to experience issues with MSN Messenger and webcams. I sold the idea to my mum that contact won't be an issue, now I'm not so sure!
Looking forward to my new life in sunny Dubai!

You have no choice of ISP here, Emaar properties will be Du, most other places Etisalat.

Both crap.

MSN Messenger works fine, we've not bothered with webcams here.

When I came to Dubai in Oct, I chose "Du" broadband connection, and to be honest I dont have a single problem with it. Started using MSN to contact my kids at home which was ok, but you either had to type as you looked at them, or press down F2 and record a voice clip, and then they did the same and back and forth it went, which was ok, but wasnt ideal. However, I then downloaded SKYPE from their website (took about 90 seconds) and now use SKYPE to talk to them PC to PC. The connection never drops, I can see and hear them clearly and we can have a proper conversation, which is great and is free of charge ! I even got my Mum onto it, and maybe like your Mum she isnt the most computer literate, but she has no problems with it, and tells all her friends about it and how fantastic modern technology is, etc !!!......You probably know but you can call landines / mobiles too from your pc using SKYPE, and its so much cheaper than using a mobile. The only frustration is when you first arrive and have to wait for these things (Showtime, equivalent of SKY TV and Broadband to be installed /connected, but once its done you'll be ok. Good Luck

I had exactly the same experience with Du. I currently use a webcam with Skype and it works fine. I have daily conversations with various family members in the UK and South Africa, and I haven't experienced any problems. I got a 1mbs broadband connection, which seems to be perfect for Skpye. Plus as Bangleman says you can also use Skype to call mobile to mobile for something like 15p a minute.
