Default Events advice needed

Afternoon everyone - as a first time poster on this site please forgive me if I am missing any protocol, but I was hoping that someone might be able to offer me some advice.

I'm thinking about coming out to Dubai in the next couple of weeks to see some recruitment consultants/headhunters (as it seems that no one takes you seriously unless you're over there) and I was wondering whether anyone might have an idea of which agencies would be the most appropriate for jobs in event management.

Am currently middle to senior level so wasn't sure whether that fell into the remit of headhunters or am best off with rec cons. Would be hugely grateful if anyone could shed some light on this and also what the job market for event managers is like at the moment.

Many thanks

Hello.

There are loads of events management comapnies and roles out here - what type of events are you involved with?

I'll be able to help a little I hope.

Cheers,

Im not sure how you deduced that....

The offer was of advice and help....two things that dont always have a monetary value...

Maybe you have been in Dubai for too long..?

Hi Auto - thanks for that mate.

Am currently working as a Senior Event Manager within the civil Service organising quite high level conferences (500-1000 delegates) so was thinking that initially I should probably stick with that(?) Am fairly flexible as to what I do though. Are there agencies that would cater to those types of roles?

Look forward to hearing from you.

Regards

errr... I looked at your website. I assume that was part of the reason for your post.

I'd be most impressed if you provide your services for free.

Nice attitude by the way "Maybe you have been in Dubai for too long..?" I trust you are not so presumptious in all your potential business relationships.

For what it's worth - your services look to be interesting to a select group of people - high worth individuals it would appear. Why not introduce a more mid range service that deals with more of the paperwork and less of the guided tours and throwing money around.

Good luck old chap.

Autonomy,

Many thanks for your kind comments, all of which have been noted..

The service that we provide is aimed at all individuals, not just 'High Worth' clients...All of our packages are fully customisable and start from as little Dhs 2k which i think you will agree is very affordable for Dubai.

Irrespective of this, the gentleman that i made the post for originally has not secured a position in Dubai and it was my intention to aid him in his quest to find a suitable job. This advice and help was offered on a 'gratis basis' as in line with the ethos and code of ethics of this Forum.

I'm not sure what line of work you are in, perhaps you may be involved in the legal profession where people are charged on an hourly basis for your time..?

Kind regards

Ashley

Hi Unc,

I'm willing to bet that with that experience you will 100% be offered a job in Dubai. The big question will be - if the salary / package offered is suitable.

I'm sure you have researched already - however have a look at what events are running here and who puts them on.

Check out ameinfo events for all upcoming events.

Have a look at the largest events company in the region IIR:

IIR Holdings Ltd

Po Box 21743
Dubai
United Arab Emirates

Phone: +971(4)3365161, Fax: +971(4)3352711
http://www.iirme.com

They run both large events like Leaders In Dubai and Cityscape and also many 4 - 5 day conference / seminars such as PR, Marketing, Finance etc

DWTC organise a lot of their own events. Others include DMG Dubai, Epoc Messe, Channels Exhibitions, Motivate Events, Domus Group and more.

See if you can buy the Middle East Media Guide 2006 on Amazon - it has a reasonable section on events companies and locations in the region.

In terms of recruitment Clarendon Parker must be the market leaders in this area.

Headhunters - not sure on this one...

I have a contacts list somewhere for a few more events companies... will try to post these later.

Use AMEinfo, definitely have a look at IIR and last of all - it is worth trying to get out here for a week or two and meet people face to face...

Good luck and let me know if I can help more...
