Default Employment Visa & Medical

A friend of mine is Moving to Dubai and has already got employment there. They sorted out an Employment Visa which he has to pick up from the airport upon his arrival. He has been told that this Visa is the first stage of the process of getting the Labour Card etc.

He has been using Cannabis up until a few days ago and is concerned that he may have to undergo a medical exam to complete his Visa application. How long would it be before he may need to take this as the Visa his Employer has organised is Valid for 80 days and a friend of his waited 2 months for his medical.

If traces of Cannabis are found in his system what will happen? Obviously he hasn't smoked or posessed it in the UAE.

Oh dear that is a tricky one, when I arrived I got a medical in day 3 of arriving, it was just blood they took checking for Aids, Hep's etc, there also should be an xray but depends who you are if it is given, really unsure if they check drug level or not ....sorry not much help...

So long as he hasn't smoked since, he should be OK. THC stays in the blood for a few days only; it gets absorbed by body fat (where it can hang around for months on end). They don't test your body fat when you apply for a visa.

Please advise your friend that drugs are bad for him.

Yes, tell < ahem> " your friend" that he really should not indulge in such naughty practices.

Is there anything else 'your friend' wishes to confess?

I think he knows that he should not indulge I have told him many a time that drugs are bad......mmmmmk.

Anyways can anyone else provide the information that we require as telling him off is not really that helpful

Its an interesting question, esp for me Bison, as I'm due to have a medical soon, so would be keen to find out more about what is actaully involved - how detailed is it, what samples do they take if any etc etc.

I'm due to come out to Riyadh, but obviously need to get meds and visa sorted before hand.

So, I'll be reading the replies with interest!

Your "friend" may remember that scene from Withnail and I with the washing up bottle full of purest child's urine???

You can buy clean urine online complete with a heating pad.... See below.

if your friend does get caught with drugs in the bloodstream he would face up to 4 years inside! So he'd better be a good boy from now onwards. He also better check his pockets for even the smallest trace of weed! any amount at all will get him sent down.

Mine (in Sharjah) was very perfunctory... chest X-ray (presumably for TB screening), blood and urine. They have so many to get through, so don't expect any banter with the woman who takes your blood. I didn't even have time to get my arm comfy!

I've had 2 in Dubai. First one in Deira was just a blood test. TB Xray wasnt required as I was from UK.
2nd in Jebel Ali required both blood test and Xray.

no urine samples for either

Thanks for your replies guys, I will pass your comments on to my friend. I think he will just have to keep his fingers crossed, drink lots of water and take some heavy exercise to sweat it out. I know that he is being a good boy now
