Are there cultural reasons why there's only a single dog home in Dubai? Are dogs not popular as pets in the country?

Dogs are considered unclean by Muslims and in general, few muslims keep them as pets, although I would imagine that quite a few are used as guard dogs.

It's not just Dubai, but go to most Asian countries and stray dogs are considered vermin on par with rats.

Come to Indonesia... you will find loads of stray dogs on the street.

In Doha ... there an english couple who run an animal shelter ... they are not government funded... they rely from ppl donation to run the place. And very often they have to dig their own pocket to run the place if they don't get enough donation.

Wondering wether the animal shelter in Doha will ended up like K9 in Dubai...
