Question Dubai problems in Abu Dhabi likely ? ?

Hello everyone,

Im new to this, posting that is, im not new to reading what you guys think... ive been doing it for days now. Very helpfull you all are too but unfortunatley im still confused/unsure. Ive used the search facility as suggested and got alot of info from that but would just like some first hand help about our individual situation, if anyone can?

Myself and my husband along with our 2 children have been looking to move to Dubai and over the last few months and have gone from having 5 'possible' job offers for my husband (2Dubai, 1Bahrain, 1Sharjar, 1Abu Dhabi) to having recieved one 'firm' offer, this being the Abu Dhabi offer. After some long hard reading on here its looking like Dubai is having some serious problems, our concerns are that if we take this move to Abu Dhabi would my husband be leaving a perfectly good, stable job to then end up like the many others who have been made redundant and sent home from Dubai? How are things in Abu Dhabi? are people there starting to worry?

My husband is a Chartered Engineer coming to run a Mechacanical & Electrical dept in a consultants. The offer is 48k AED a month for the first three months then inceasing to 52k AED after that. This figure is inclusive of everything, acc allowance, flights home etc, plus we have an 8year old to put in school. As an offer how does this sound to people? Personnaly i think he should push for more but is that an exceptable thing to do out there?

Im a bit lost when looking for accommodation too... dont really want to be ripped off but yet certainly dont want to live in what some on here are calling a rubbish dump off island!! Can someone suggest a decent area that we may be able to afford on our wage please? (if any at all) Considered commuting from Dubai Marina to office (near airport) but after reading that the road is a death trap its now out of the question.

HELP PLEASE

Many thanks in advance.... (feeling hopefull)

To be honest, I'd be really careful. 52k per month will become pretty tight in AD if it is inclusive. It can be done but you might have to make sacrifices.

As to whether the job itself is a risk. AD is going to be hit, not as much as Dubai has been - but there will be an impact. There is already talk of some of the big developers and JVs scaling back a bit. Consultancy may be one of the first casualties if companies are looking to trim their outgoings.

The question to ask is if you were on solid ground and due to board a ship, and you had just seen it's sister ship go down with all hands lost, would you still board the ship? I'd certainly have second thoughts.

People are saying that the property market is more stable in AD due to the rent situation, but most of the new property is still a good year away from coming online - and most of it has been bought by speculators who may struggle to make future payments due to the lack of credit available. This could result in the cashflow of the developers stalling which then means projects go on hold until funds become available.

Also even though some of the big players like Aldar have Govt backing, they are still relying on sub-developers to buy and build on the plots - it is this level that will be hardest hit.

Very Well put

Especially that sister ship bit... very good. I must agree entirely i dont think AD will be as hit as Dubai simply due to the wealth difference but i would think twice. Saying that i personally would prefer to live in Dubai than AD, a bit more relaxed etc etc..... Sorry to those AD lovers im just saying

From your optimum 624k p.a, conservatively, you are looking at @ 350k for suitable family accomodation per year in AD..............

My husband works for an engineering consultancy that is based in Dubai and AD... and they are apparently putting a freeze on bringing new people out as a precaution in light of recent events.

My gut feel would be to stay put, if your husband's job is safe in GB. This place is far more high-risk than GB, and also moving will make him subject to the 3 month probationary period, by which time you will have invested a lot of money into coming over.

Thankyou all of the above people for your help, as we thought the offer wasnt enough for AD and even if it had been it sounds as though we would be foolish to leave here as things stand at the moment. Think we'll just keep an eye on the market out there and hope better offers come up in the future.

You have all been very helpful.... Thankyou. nic.Xx

with what is going on in dubai and its happening in ab dabs as well, i would not give up a stable job and come here, companies are loosing out everywhere, so imo i wouldnt come, and another thing you will still struggle to find a school place for an 8 year old. dont believe everything you see or read in the paper, they are not telling the whole truth
