Default Dubai Car Registration

Bonjour,

Can anyone tell me if there is a car registration place near The Greens? I called the RTA but the person I spoke to had very limited English so couldn't really understand what he was saying!.

Also, if your car is financed, do you need an NOC from the bank?

Thanks in advance,
CH

There's the main place just the other side of the MoE. Or go to the one in Jebel Ali.

You can register it at the RTA centre by the Gold & Diamond park. This might also be where you got your driving license as most ppl do the transfer there. Hope this helps.

There's one at Jebel Ali...see my post:

http://britishexpats.com/forum/showthread.php?t=510405

However, don't follow the exit instructions in that post...leave via the back of the car registration centre and go back to the roundabout and follow EXIT signs from Jebel Ali Port or ask someone at the registration centre how to get back onto Sheikh Zayed Road to Dubai.

Leaving that place is a nightmare now...

Also, I had to get a pass from the gate office, when I went. But it only took a minute.

It was certainly handy.

I found out the easiest way to exit the place...map attached...it was easy ! People at the gate usually wave you through, though.

I was recommended Tasjeel by a friend recently. They pick up your car and the relevant paperwork while you're at work and take it to be tested and reregistered, and bring it back to you 2 hours later.

They charge 200 AED for the service, plus the charges for the registration and the testing.

..but what happens if you have to pay speeding or other fines ? Do they pay and reclaim from you?

Last time I was at the car registration place, the guy next to me at the counter had to fork over DHS1,500 in fines before he got his new registration card !!

You're supposed to check online for fines first anyway.

When I rang Tasjeel they asked me for my car registration number and checked there and then telling me that I didn't have any fines. If you prefer you can just give them the cash and they will pay the fines for you when they reregister the car but you might as well do it yourself online.

How do you change or edit an old post?

For example, when I posted the following thread:

http://britishexpats.com/forum/showthread.php?t=510405

The exit road information in my first post in that thread is now out of date and will cause people to get lost. I have posted a new exit road map at post #6 above that is current.

Re-registered mine at the Gold & Diamond Park one yesterday... in and out in about half an hour.

I did have to pay my fines before i got the card too... 11 months I managed to get none and then hit with a speeding fine two weeks ago. 600 big ones - gone! >sob<

By the way... what the hell is a knowledge fee?!?! I know it's a tax that's not called a tax... but how can they justify it. Oh yes, that's right - they don't have to.

Anyone know how much it is these days if you are late re-registering? Just realised both of ours should have been done 5 months ago!!

1 month is free, 50 dhs a month after that, at least it used to be. Be careful FD you are driving illegally.
