Well no. "Strained and sieved" would only be the primary treatment stage, which serves to remove bulk solids before treatment by activated sludge (AS) in the secondary treatment stage. The extended aeration phase using AS oxidises most of the remaining suspended organic matter and greatly reduces the concentration of pathogenic bacteria (which readily die outside the human body). However, there are still residual concentrations of potentially harmful bacteria, spores and cysts, that is why tertiary treatment should be undertaken to ensure a much higher quality of the water used in irrigation or spraying. Tertiary treatment would involve settlement ponds for 'polishing' the (removing solids and nitrification - oxidising nitrogenous compounds, such as ammonia) and may include disinfection in the final stage, if required.
Perhaps the powers to be are using tertiary treatment (I don't know). If so, then the sewage treatment works are probably overloaded as evidenced by the poor quality of spray irrigation waters applied (e.g. it smells).

Would love to see an aerial photo of the sewerage plant.
Those trucks queue for miles and don't move....they are basically a long storage pipeline.
What's the yellowish smoke coming out the top of the stacks at the plant? I see it every night on the way home....most of the time it's being blown off towards silicon oasis.......but once or twice a month it's coming my way......
Half expect to see miss Erin Brokovich lurking around soon......

(A bit off topic I know) but I'm actually a Senior Civil Engineer specialising in the construction of waste water assets, I'm also actively seeking employment in Dubai. Does anyone know who the principal contractors in this field are? (I assume you may be able to help me on this MacScot?) Thanks

Just checked googlearth myself and I'm sure there's more than 100...wouldn't want to start counting.
However - think what i'm seeing is still an old image as the queues don't go nearly as far as what I see when I go home....

Last time I looked, many of the Dubai images on Google Earth were well over three years old... they showed that the Al Khail Road hadn't even extended as far as the Springs.

Actually, I am not up-to-date in this field in Dubai as I am focussing on offshore oil and gas. However, a quick google search revealed the following - as a starting point.
NSCC (Dubai)
http://www.nsccme.com/MajorPs.htm
Al Ahmadiah and Aktor SA (Greece)
Jebel ALi sewage treatment plant

Best wishes in job hunting.

Grr
I came home after 2 hrs in the demolition derby jam from Sharjah to find the street and my building, Ajman's so called , as advertised " most prestigious building" ( the one that has never been cleaned since construction finished, the one that has never had defects finished, the one that never had the so called health spa put in, the one that has had all access to parking around it blocked off by the owner so we can pay inflationary prices to use his carpark, the one that had a rat plague in the foyer ceiling, the one that was a construction site when most of us moved in ...........to find sewage flooding the streets and access to the building. Thought this hadnt happened for a while..but apparently every evening this week...all the kiddies were playing in it..Cholera epidemic here we come..the fact that everyone is always sick in the building is concerning..the new building just up from Spinneys,..the one with the magnificent views of the sea with all the the oil and sewage effluent washing up on the shores on a daily basis.... from the tankers in Sharjah harbour...well you can hardly see this anymore as the windows have never ever been cleaned..ever!!!!
I feel better now!!!!!
