My house is never dry...the wonders of a booze license and gainful employment combined with a social circle cannot be underestimated.

It is NOT dry after Ramadan...if they call the end of Ramadan tonight...which is expected, Oman already called it last night, then tomorrow the bars and restaurants will be open and serving as normal from noon.

Depends on what you like and where you are staying. Sports bars you have Sherezad in Radisson Blu and Champions in Marriott (City)

Lively pissheads you have Irish Harp Sheraton

Relaxed you have Trader Vics in Hilton

Stinking of cheap aftershave, over priced shite drinks & surrounded by lebbo wankers try W Hotel or La Cigale.

Trying to figure out when a beer might be possible.

Today 7th August, 15:45 local time I called Rotana Oryx to see if they would today be serving alcohol. The very nice lady on the phone informed me they would commence from the second day of Eid. When pushed as to when that might be she responded that she did not know, it was yet to be announced.

Anybody have some hard facts as to places and dates.

It hardly makes any difference to wait another day or three but would be nice to know just when I can get a beer. Just sayin like.

Cheers

Wait until dark, look at sky, if tiny sliver of moon visible, probably Eid. But you have to wait for the moon sighting committee to confirm they can also see a tiny sliver of moon. Bars will possibly open tomorrow night after 5.

Wahm just said they wont serve alcohol until the second night of Eid

Thought there was no need to be dry?

Qatar making up its own rules again?

From what very little I know that would sound reasonable though you might be accused of trying to force logic on the patently illogical.

Does this kind of occasion call for a get together? I would like to drink my bodyweight is over-priced booze simultaniously trying to remember the names of people I just met, probably reffering to everyone as 'mate' 'man' or 'pal'.

We had email from Rugby club (Qatar) saying as per government directive they would not be open until noon Friday..... guess that might be when everyone else in Qatar is allowed to open as well???
