Bit of a mad one this but am thinking about buying a Porsche here in Oman and somehow getting it back to the UK. I would like to drive it all the way but Saudi visas are apparently hard to come by and not sure it would be that safe as an expat on my own - I'd obviously stick out like a sore thumb. The alternative is to get it shipped from Dubai or Muscat preferably to somewhere in Europe, Italy maybe and then take the next month or so to drive it back to the UK.
Anyone ever done this, considered it or discounted it for whatever reason, I'd like to hear from you.
Cheers

The other way round is to ship to Iran - DXB to Bander Abbas and do it that way. I've seen most of Iran and it is ok. A friend did this a couple of times - the other way - his issue was driving minibusses from UK to Pak then selling them. Turkey was the problem because they are the worst drivers in the world - except Kuwait of course. You also had to bribe. To be honest though there is a diference between driving to Europe and driving to Europe in a Porsche and that might not work.
Also, get the vehicle specs checked out, they may not be acceptable for permanent import into the UK - I know that some US vehs sold in Mid East would fail because of protection.
Good luck though.

I know of a few guys who did this with Range Rovers, have even heard of a few who rode their Harleys back to the UK from Saudi.
It can be done, i know you can get a 3 day transit visa for Saudi.

what cyprus, you would then have to get it 'wet' swimming to the mainland europe, but yes you could ship it turkey or somewhere and drive it back from there.
