commuting from Dubai to Masdar City
Hi all,
I would like to get some advice about commuting from Dubai to Masdar City- Abu Dhabi. (I think it's near the airport).
I've read some threads about this but it seems that it really depends on where in AD you will commute to.
We will be moving to Dubai and my husband plans to drive daily (or 4 times a week) to Abu Dhabi- Masdar City.
-Ideas on the times?
-Average costs of petrol per week?
-Rush hours
Any advice would be highly appreciated as I'm getting worried that this might not be a good idea for a better lifestyle for our small family.

Re: commuting from Dubai to Masdar City
I did virtually the same trip most days for about a year and a half. Chose to live in the Marina to cut down the time on the Sheik Zayed Road. Usually took about an hour, maybe ten mins less to Masdar. Time-wise its important to chose to live somewhere that has quick access to and from SZR--I had initially considered Discovery Gardens, but the access is awful at peak times. Expect delays about once a week due to the appalling driving. And your other half should only consider it if he's a resilient driver--its not dubbed Whacky Races for nothing.
Abu Dhabi's a nice place to live, though.
Edit: As to fuel costs, obviously it will depend what he drives and how he drives it. I had a relatively thirsty car, and it cost less than 1,000 pcm.

Re: commuting from Dubai to Masdar City
I'm completely baffled by this and your other thread.
As I understand it you have a housing allowance of 225k, you are thinking of living in JLT, and your husband will be working in Masdar. To be fair, that's not actually such a bad journey, say 45 minutes each way once you're on the highway, although on a bad day it can take almost that to get in or out of JLT, and the Dubai-Abu Dhabi road in rush hour is miserable and dangerous.
But you don't have to do it! You have a great housing allowance and so you can afford to live in Abu Dhabi. In fact for that money you could have a huge villa with pool etc. around KCA, or a fabulous modern beachfront apartment at Al Raha and your husband will be a stone's throw from the office. Either would probably be much better places for you to live than JLT, especially if you have small kids, and your husband will save a good hour of commuting every day.
I really think you need to rethink this...
