Default Cause of accidents..

blamed on the trees on Al Wasl road

This follows recent tragic accidents on Al Wasl road (including 2 ex students of Dubai College who were killed in an accident a few months ago)

" A total of 200 metres of trees on Al Wasl Road blocking the line of sight at U-turns should be removed because they have been the main cause of fatal accidents that have claimed six lives so far, said a senior traffic official on Saturday. "

the fact that people are driving way too fast on this stretch of road obviously has nothing to do with it...

I have heard that the RTA are considering closing virtually all U turns in Dubai because of the huge amounts of accidents on them.

When will they learn that driver education is the key (sorry I nearly typed execution instead of education - in hindsight perhaps I should have left it in)...

If you look at the picture in Gulf News (see below) there is a clear line of site along the road for the driver. It is probably a case of misjudging the speed of oncoming traffic or just taking risks !

You should have....lol

The speed limit is 70kmph, but you see drivers speeding all the time - we use this road every day for school runs

Rather than removing all U turns, having signals may be a better idea.

Its the fog that used to causes most accidents, didnt you know, cant possibly be the drivers......in fact I notice at night that a lot of "certain nationalities" drive with fog lamps on all the time...is this in case they come across some unexpected fog or scotch mist that nobody else knows about? Also, I have noticed an increase trend in Dubai recently, black cars, with full black tinted windows, driving at night without any lights on.... drivers are probably wearing shades and using mobile phones...is it any wonder why Dubai has one of the worst accident rates...

The trees have little or nothing to do with the accidents. I do a U'Turn on Al Wasl every work day and the view is only obscured if you drive too quickly and don't stop. They could do with more traffic lights on some of the U'turns though as it can be almost impossible to pull out of the U-Turns.

I read today in 7-days that a kid was killed in one of the accidents. Sat on the parents lap. When will the police doe someting about this.
I drove past a Nissan Tiida yesterday. there were 5 adults in the car and 3 kids sat on laps. They looked Indian or Pakistani to me. Driver and the parents should be locked up!

U-turns are inherently dangerous in my view. In order to join the slip road before making the u-turn, you have to move into the left (ie.over-taking) lane and then slow down sharply. In Sharjah yesterday I almost ploughed into the back of a dozen cars stopped in the over-taking lane of a fast stretch of dual carriageway waiting to make a u-turn. Very annoying when there was a roundabout less than 100 yrds ahead!

Not to worry...I read that a oil reserve twice as big as anything in Saudi has been found in Dakota with enough oil to cover 20 years of domestic US use.

With any luck they'll be back on camels within 15 years in this region...with cars being used to cook sharwarma's on while you sit and wait

N.

PS: Am off to the other forums to see how expats in USA fare...at least there I can get my boy to learn out the window and shoot any 4x4s that come too close
