Capital's housing crunch grows worse
Just reading the gulf news online and found this !!!
Capital's housing crunch grows worse
Abu Dhabi: The housing shortage continues to grow in Abu Dhabi as the surge in development brings in more businesses and workers, it was announced on Sunday.
"The Abu Dhabi housing shortage is expected to grow to 70,000 units by 2010 with buildings under construction satisfying only 20 per cent of the needs this year," said the Centre for Information and Decision making at the Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce and Industry, in its latest report.
The UAE capital has 320,000 housing units, which are expected to rise to 328,000 next year and 340,000 by 2010, the report added. "As many as 7,000 new companies have been registered in the emirate."

yep its not going to get better, unless the powers that be decide that the rents are way too high, and they do something about it going up and up, ie abide by what laws there are and not let ll do as they please and perhaps make the landlords pay the estate agent costs each time they change their tenant, as that would be easiest way of doing it, because eventually business will go elsewhere, and have a big knock on affect, eventually at the end of the day the government will have to pay either with higher costs for projects etc or they will pay in less quality because the western companies will not be able to afford here, and the jobs will go to the less experienced companies who are cheaper but not necessarily the best, so then i wouldnt want to be living in the tallest tower because that tallest tower is built by unexperienced people and who knows how long it will stand up for.

Re: Capital's housing crunch grows worse
i know arabtec is professional etc, i was meaning the new 'tallest tower' being talked about, not the burj. so the costs will have risen on pricing the jobs and so therefore they either cost the government more if they want to use the 'good' firms or it will cost less because they will go with the 'cheapest' bid etc, thats the point that i am making.
