Default can company force a move...

HI All,
I was hired to work from the Dubai office of our company. Now they want me to move to work at the Abu Dhabi office without offering any financial assistance for the relocation.
Can they do this ? If I refuse ? can they fire me for refusing ? compensation?

Any info would be welcome,

thank you.

Check your employment contract. Mine says that they can move me where ever they please . They should 'in good faith' offer you some sort of recompensation for the move but again depends on what your contract says.

Try it you might like it!

Abu Dhabi is the best posting in the ME ahead of Dubai and Muscat in my book.

Accommodation is pricier though so you may have some grounds for compensation

No doubt your employer has a sound business reason for wanting you to move, and I would imagine that it would be pretty easy for him to say that your position in Dubai is redundant which would make your departure equally easy. Even if your contract of employment states Dubai, is he really going to keep you there if he needs you in AD? You have bugger-all security of tenure, so leverage whatever goodwill you have with your employer to negotiate enough so that you're not out of pocket.

maybe you are working for semi-goverment and the new rules? or perhaps you will just have to pay more to live and work in abu dhabi just like the rest of us down here have done for years!
