Buying a Computer
Hiya all
We would like to buy a laptop for when we move to Dubai. Are electrical goods much cheaper there than in the UK? And do you pay consumer tax on electrical goods in Dubai?
The other alternative is to buy in Duty Free when we leave the UK!!
Cheers

My dad has just bought a really lightweight (<3kg) top spec laptop for about £900. It is DEFINATELY cheaper over here. Although shop around, the technology is VERY SLIGHTLY behind the UK. You will pick up a bargain promise.

Computers are cheap here, but not that cheap, even after haggling. Also half the parts are chinese made and don't last for more than a minute........
I have bought 2 here in the last year...ones gotta go back for some healing and tother probabl;y won't last the year.......so if u have a container or massive baggage allowance, buy UK.....

Just stick to the well known names, they all come from the same place of manufacture.

Re: Buying a Computer
uae sources equipment from asia and from europe.
there is however a grey market for all consumer electronic goods. You have to decide whether you prefer lower price for an item or a potentially higher price but with warranty from your seller.
Major stores include Plug-Ins, Compu-Me, Jacky's, Jumbo. Keep in mind these stores usually stick to their prices.
For bargains you need to check out Al-Ain Plaza also known as Computer Plaza in BurDubai.
Cheers,
