Blackberry Alternatives
I have a few questions and please excuse if they are a bit technical, I am an IT consultant / geek and cannot help it!
All this talk about Blackberry is due to the fact that your Blackberry gets its "emails" pushed to it via the RIM servers. The blackberry does not contact servers directly, it always uses RIM as the middle-man.
Now many companies in the UAE use e-mail servers in Europe or America. These also use HTTPS or encrypted data channels to get the data. What about these situations? What about if you wish to look at your banking website and are using a SSL HTTPS website?
I guess the difference could be that it is possible to monitor HTTPS streams given the right hardware, but that would cost a huuuuuuuuge amount of money in advanced firewall equipment. I know how much these firewalls cost becuase i sell them!
Anyways any thoughts? I bet many people here are using servers in Europe with support given from their Head Office - a lot of IT support comes from outside as from my experience decent IT support can sometimes be hard to find here.
Cheers

Re: Blackberry Alternatives
HTTPS is not used for every sites and does not prevent some sites from being blocked.
The real issue is probably for browsing and instant messaging. as far as I'm aware RIM is the only company which encrypts every piece of data leaving your phone.
And as far as huge amount of money is concerned, I don't think it's too much of an issue here.
