Hi Guys,
Could anyone tell me what Dubai airport is like, is there anything for a 5 year old to do, we have only ever stopped over in Singapore but this year it is Dubai, although it is only for 4 hours, is there good shopping bargains to be had? cheers

For a 5 year old, you certainly know how to write a coherent sentence...

For kids , im not aware of anything to do, we did an overnighter in a hotel close by.
What will annoy the shit out of you tho, is the QUEUES for international departures... its enormous and everyone pushes in.
To pass time me and the kids played, spot the normal person. Everyone seems to have a limp, missing thumbs fingers, or bumpy heads, its like being in THEME HOSPITAL the game.

Dubai is billed as "the most beautiful duty free in the world" or some such marketing twaddle, but it really is an amazing experience.
Look out for the flamboyant jewellery to drool over, the Bentley's & the horrifically expensive clothes. There should be displays of things like rough-cut diamonds in glass cases, gold ingots, sports cars -they really rub your nose in the wealth
the displays do change quite frequently so you never know what you'll find when you go.
Have a good look at it all, enjoy the experience, have a laugh & then it's back on the plane & off to the real world!
Best of luck!

Quite right, MH........... calm down you lot. Mind you, "Spot The Normal Person" sounds like fun for the kids - I know what you mean.....
And, unlike at many duty-free outlets, DON'T expect bargains - any Dubai resident can reel off the top of his/her head a list of local shops in town that sells much more cheaply anything you can buy at DDF. Doesn't help you of course but.....

There is a nice little Food Court near Gate 14 with a MacDonalds and also an Irish pub...not much else besides the usual shops.

Don't be tempted in buying any electronic goods in Dubai Duty Free. If you do stumble upon something that is the same price or cheaper than can be bought in Oz, it will likely have a local warranty. I have been caught a couple of times...too many Bloody Marys' on the flight in does it!!!
