Default Best way to learn Gulf Arabic

I would like to learn some Arabic before I move out to the UAE.

I was about to buy the Michel Thomas course (I like how they teach it) but some of the Amazon reviews said it was Egyptian arabic not UAE arabic.

Does anyone have any recommendations for a course or book that works well?

Dont bother. You won't need it.

For the little you will need the Egyptian is fine.

Seconded. However, I too like the Michel Thomas method (I've done the French, Monsieur: c'est excellent), and for the investment in time required (ie minimal) its probably worth a punt.

Ok Thanks. I've ordered the foundation Michel Thomas course.

I know I don't need it but I always think knowing enough to get by makes life more interesting.

When you know a bit, the best way to practice is to go up to a local GCC Arab and say 'Hello' in English, then spit on the ground in front of them, then shove them with both hands, hard on the chest.

It's how they wish to be greeted when people are learning the language.
