Aquiring a car in Doha
Hello again
Would be very interested to hear folks thoughts on the best options for getting a car in Qatar. Have obviously looked through lots of classifieds and I'm sure they will have the same pluses and minuses as the UK; would imagine that rust/corrosion is not such an issue in a desert climate but are there other specific issues to look out for? Not keen on buying a new car outright and unsure if there are other ways of doing it - does lease hire operate in Qatar?
Any thoughts or observations would be appreciated.
Regards
Boyd

Lease hire is available. Rust and corrosion is not an issue. Crash damage, poor maintence, and misuse are the concerns. If buying seconhand the best option is to buy from a departing western expat. For a secondhand dealer look at Oasis cars:. You can waste an awful lot of time with secondhand dealers on Salwa road. I bought new because I did not have time to waste with the dealers and new prices ,with discount, were cheaper than they were asking seconhand.

As above, buy new. Used cars are stupidly expensive, with many 3-year old cars costing as much as a new one.
Go for Toyota or Nissan, since spare & repairs are readily available in Doha, and of course are easy to sell when you are done here.
Popular expat choices are Nissan Altima @ QR70k or Toyota Prado @ 130k. There's the Nissan X-Trail, Toyota Fortuner or new Toyota Rav 4, which are well worth a look.
Me, I rent a Nissan Sunny Classic, just for kicks (QR2.2k/m). Who needs ABS and other new fangle gadgets...

Thanks everyone for the info so far. I knew that britishexpat76 possibly had something to do with cars but I didn't want to impose. I will certainly give Oasis a call.
Cheers

If you look at the website people have mentioned it will give you a good idea of car prices and rentals here. It will also make you aware of driving here and licences. We have anywhere from 80-100 cars at any time, so should be able to help.
