I am a mangement accountant in the UK and thinking of moving to Dubai / anywhere upcoming in the UAE. Anyone working in a similar role or in finance here? I'd like to know how employable I would be and what kind of salary / benefits to expect?

A lot of the accounting work is done by Indians (=low salaries in comparison to Western expats). However if you can show some seniority/management skills... you could find something interesting. Check places like Gulf Bankers and Gulf Talent. Sometimes they advertise looking for "Western educated" and there you are.

Do a search since there are loads on info in this blog.

I had a look on monstergulf and was dissapointed to see they actually specify genger - male and nationality - indian for a lot of the finance roles, hence thought i'd see if anyone could give more insight on this. I'll have a look on the Gulf Bankers / Talent - hopefully i'll find something there..

Zena, if you are a qualified accountant (CIMA, ACCA, ACA) rather than a "book keeper" there will be many more opportunities. You would not be prepared to work for the sort of salaries that are paid to the Indian accountants.

Hi Sue_M,

I have a First class BSc Hons degree from the UK and am CIMA part-qualified. You are right - I wouldn't be prepared to work for the same salary as an Indian accountant - it wouldn't be worth selling up house and moving there to be paid a fraction of my current salary.

I have registered my cv on gulftalent.com - hopefully will find better things there..
