Default Anyone here work for Laing ORourke ?

Hallo all,

I've been reading / searching the forum over the last few days to get an insight into AD (most interesting it is too) and as the thread title suggests, I'm looking for anyone on here that works for LOR to try and get some info.

I'm an employee of LOR here in the UK and am waiting for HR to sort out an offer for me to come over there to the Al Raha project, with my wife. Obviously they provide the accomodation for us and I'm interested in what / where that's likely to be and also, how long it's likely to take to arrange once we're there. I've been told by the chap who'll be my boss that LOR rent entire apartment blocks out for the staff and we'll be in one of those. Obviously with not having any details yet from HR I'm a bit (lot) in the dark over what we're likely to get assistance with from LOR.

Lots of things to sort out yet before we commit to coming over but if there is anyone here working for LOR that could assist with a few answers, I'd appreciate it

Cheers

Mike

ALOR have apartments in Masker Al Nahyan area of AD between Salaam Street, Delma Street and Defence Road.

The apartments are OK, and the location is pretty good. I don't work for them but are in exactly the same type of apartments. Not sure how many they have left spare. I know a few of the wives post on Abudhabiwoman.com forum.

Hi there, husband works for LOR and we are in one of the apartments in Maskar Al Nayhan, its pretty full but there may be the odd 1 br left, the 2/3 br ones are generally given to families with children (dont know if you have any) All the accomodation offered by LOR is nice, altho I haven't been in the high rises but been assured they are lovely. Ours has pool and lots of parking, very handy for shops and Al Wahda Mall within walking distance. Please feel free to PM if you want any further info x

Thanks Tansy, much appreciated, having read plenty of horror storys on various websites about the standard of accomodation over there it's nice to know LOR are providing quality stuff (not that I'd expected anything else to be honest). We don't have kids yet but if it's just a 1bed I'm guessing we'd struggle as my wife will be working from the apartment.

I'll drop you a PM though

007taff, I'll also send you a PM

Cheers

Mike

I am currently with LOR in AD they have apartments all over AD but its 'pot luck' where you end up to be honest, depends upon your grading.

I am in Khalidiya Towers but there are apartments at Al Reem, Bin Waneese, KCA, on the Corniche and villas in complexes dotted around.

My apartment in Khalidiya is three bedroomed and although not finished to a particularly good standard it is huge, I am quite happy with it and of the other properties LO'R provide that I have seen they are top notch.

Really ? That could be an issue as my wife's an account director for a US pharma company and works from home here in the UK, as it's mostly phone based. There's every possibility she may be able to carry on this role from AD, spending maybe 1 week a month either in the US head office or UK as she does now because the company are very keen to keep her. Unless of course this is illegal...

She's registered on the abudhabiwimmin site now and learning a lot. Thanks for the link to it.

illegal working from home, to work you need an employment visa, and have a labour card etc.

yes that is the law but how many uphold it? I can't see it being a problem.
