Default Alcohol licence

Ok my licence runs out in a few days, as you know my situation last thing I want is to be stopped drunk without a licence.

Thing is I need ti give them visa copy and tenancy agreement. I have neither. No visa at the moment and tenance went into mrs spugsys name once I lost my residence visa.

So thing is, is this for files for A&E or does it go to the police? Can I give them old visa copy and will it be checked?

The licence application has to be approved by the CID so you have little chance of getting approval I'm afraid to say. Your misses can add you as her spouse to her licence, but again it needs CID approval I believe. Luckily its only a standard Dhs1,000 fine if you get caught, although I was under the impression that you only need a licence if you have a residency visa. Its another grey area..

She works for a local muslim country who won't even sell wine glasses never mind give them an NOC for a booze licence.

Oh well guess I'll have to wait until I get my residency.

Surely you know someone flying in who could buy you a few bottles at Duty Free. Failing that, pop down to AD. (Yeah, I know we've been through this before, but I've never had issues buying here without a licence, and nor has anyone I've known.)

Am guessing that alcohol procurement is not an issue as a licence is not needed to buy booze at Barracuda. Spugsy simply wants a licence to consume alcohol legally.

Our sponsor has told us if your going to get caught drunk here, you'd be better off being charged for not having the license than having the license and being charged for somat else. Police are under instruction to get the fines coming in. Hearsay, fair enough, but our sponsor is a pretty high ranking Dubai minister, so I'm confident there is a bit of truth in it.

Its even worse trying to get a license when you live in Dubai but have AD residency permit, you need to get an NOC from AD CID, then go through the issues in Dubai.

But my understanding is you only need a license if you have a residency permit, which must be correct as, as you say Spugsy you can't get one without one.

But if you were charged for something else (eg.drunken behaviour or driving under the influence), you would still be fined with or without a licence. Without a licence you get an extra Dhs1,000 fine. Your sponsor sounds a bit dopey to me.

i think the sponsors point was that you would only get the 1,000dhs fine, and the being pissed in public would be overlooked. made sense to me at the time.

You can buy in Al Ain without a licence no trouble, just transporting back might be a bit stressful. We drive from Al Ain to Dubai or Abu Dhabi all the time to visit friends with wine and beer in a chilly bin. Never been involved in an accident though. Also when we were living in Dubai I bought from Barracouda no trouble at all. This was a year ago and I have heard that things have tightened up.

Feel your pain. I'd be in a spin if I though I couldn't buy!"

It's actually having the licence that I want, in case I get stopped by the police when drunk.
