Yes - it's a good deal if you like ARG. Remember there are no facilities and your bills for AC will be higher than normal as they have a chilled water system - lot's of information about this on other expat forums.

Lived there for a couple of years - seems about right but there are several kinds of 3 bed townhouse, some smaller than others.

So what exactly is a "townhouse" anyway, because it sounds like an oxymoron in the context of Al Raha Gardens...?

For townhouse read terraced and for villa on ARG read detached house with a tiny space separating it from the next house. Some villas are so close that you can stand on the balcony and shake hands with your neighbour.

Yes, in hindsight I can't honestly say I'd recommend the place but that's mostly because of the complete lack of facilities/shops. Surely there are better options now?

Better options? Such as where, if you work out of town? We have looked in KCA but finish is nowhere near as good. I don't exactly want to run around in the garden...just some outside space for table and chairs and a few plants.

The question remains.. what are these better options?

Fair comment, it's not easy! We had a straight choice when we came out between Seashores and a much bigger place in ARG. I wished later I'd gone for the smaller place which had excellent facilities and a Spinneys on the doorstep rather than a place in the desert with er, nothing much at all. Everyone has different ideas though and different requirements. On the positive front we met some very nice people and surely some facilities must be coming online now? We were told "6 months" in February 2008!! What about Golf Gardens? Or some of the smaller compounds being built in KCA and Between two Bridges? One further piece of advice - give Sas Al Nakhl a biggggg swerve - housing should not be in the middle of a huge stretch of massive electric cables......
